We are proud to announce the sixth edition of our annual event, The Lumsden Leadership Summit, a unique platform that encourages and inspires the student body and wider community by exposing them to successful women from across all business and society sectors.
Today we invite you to join our talk on law, where we have invited interesting, successful and prominent women from the legal profession.
Our speakers for this conference are:
Sarah Whitehouse
Sarah was appointed Queen's Counsel and Senior Treasury Counsel in 2014 and as deputy First Senior Treasury Counsel in 2018.
Sarah prosecutes and defends in a wide variety of cases, many of which are high profile, such as the forthcoming trial relating to police cover-up allegations after the Hillsborough disaster. Other cases include murder, terrorism, corruption, sexual offences, fraud and cybercrime.
She appears regularly in the Court of Appeal on behalf of both the appellants, respondents, and the Attorney General. She is also instructed to appear in the High Court in judicial reviews and appeals by way of case stated. She is on the Attorney General's list of special advocates.
Sarah undertakes extensive advisory work for public agencies, corporates, and private individuals on a wide range of topics. As a former banker, she has an excellent understanding of corporate and financial matters. Sarah is a contributor to Fraud (Oxford University Press) and Millington and Sutherland Williams on The Proceeds of Crime (Oxford University Press). She is also a contributor to EU Law and Criminal Practice (Oxford University Press).
Sarah is chair of the Post-Call Education Committee at Lincoln's Inn. She is a Grade A advocacy tutor and tutor on the annual international advocacy course at Keble College, Oxford. In addition, she provides advocacy and judicial training worldwide: in the past two years, she has joined delegations to offer training in Malaysia, Ukraine, Singapore, Nigeria, the USA, and The Hague.
Sarah is an honorary professor at Nottingham Law School.
She sits as a Recorder in the Crown Court.
Christine Ryan:
She is a Deputy Attorney General to the New York Attorney General, one of the largest and most respected legal institutions in the United States and has a 395-year-old legacy as an independent and aggressive law enforcement agency. Born and raised in New York City, Ryan has extensive legal experience in private and public services. Since joining the Attorney General's Office, Ryan has held senior roles across the agency before becoming Deputy Attorney General and joining the Attorney General's senior management team.
Ryan serves on the Washington University School of Law Board of Advisors and the Good Sports Foundation board. This charitable organization operates in all 50 states providing new sports equipment to children in need.
Ryan holds degrees from Boston University, Washington University, and Columbia University. She lives in New York City with her husband and three daughters.
Ellen Seo
Ellen Seo is Director and Senior Counsel, Real Estate for Louis Vuitton Americas. Her role focuses on leasing and management of real estate legal matters for the zone which includes North and South America, Latin America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
Ellen is a graduate of St. John’s Law School. Prior to her position at Louis Vuitton, Ellen was an associate at Loeb & Loeb in the Commercial Real Estate Leasing group, concentrating on the representation of both landlords and tenants in office and retail leasing and subleasing. Before joining Loeb, Ellen acted as real estate counsel for the northeast region of a leading restaurant chain and was senior in-house real estate counsel for a national furniture retailer.
To facilitate the conference, we have our own Beatrice Mary Byrne Hill, a member of the Lumsden Club, and fourth year at St Andrew's. Beatrice is currently undertaking an M.A. in ancient Greek, Latin, and Arabic and will pursue a legal career after graduation. Following her conversion into law, she will complete her Law Qualification at Norton Rose Fulbright.
These women will share their work, achievements, and insights as they represent all that we are seeking to promote and inspire in the next generation of leaders.

The Lumsden Leadership Summit
The Lumsden club aims to support women's and children's charities and promote the arts both locally and abroad. The Club predominantly works alongside Fife Women's Aid, supporting mothers and children who have been domestic abuse victims.
