PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

This course will look at the issues to consider when selecting or changing an entity type for your tax practice. A look at the advantages and disadvantages of selecting Sole Proprietorship, Partnership, S-Corp, or C-Corp Status as a tax professional. Topics include Payroll, Reasonable Compensation, Draws, Dividends, Distributions, Tracking Basis, Filing Requirements, etc. Discussion will focus on making a selection as a tax professional, and some of the specific things EAs should consider vs other businesses.

Learning Objectives:
1. Identify 4 different Entity Statuses and characteristics of each
2. Learn some simple ways to determine reasonable compensation amounts.
3. Identify when it may be time to change an entity’s status
4. Identify potential advantages and pitfalls of selecting a particular entity status
5. Identify the difference between owner draws, dividends, and distributions

PRESENTER:
Patrick Knightly, EA is a tax professional with over twenty years of tax and accounting experience. He has extensive experience in private and public sector accounting, and has also served as the Chief Financial Officer of a non-profit charity. He currently lives in the Richmond, VA, has a dog named Jojo, and is a die-hard Hokie fan.

Refund Policy
Refunds will be honored if written notification is received at the Administrative Office up to 5 days prior to the date of the course. A processing fee of $25 will be deducted from the refund. If the total registration fee was less than $25, no refund will be granted. Transferring the registration to another individual is allowed up to 5 days prior to the program date. Transfers or cancellations within 5 days of the course will not be accepted. “No Shows” forfeit their fees. Cancellation
