Eastern Wood Warbler return to breed in North America every spring, to the delight of birders! The identification workshop with Kevin Karlson is drawn from his classes offered at festivals through North America each year.
Each species is shown in digital photo arrays that have most of the plumage possibilities in one view—breeding male/female, non-breeding, and immature. This comparison allows you to see the differences in each species in one view, which helps with your retention of important ID points.
Similar species are also shown together in digital arrays to allow for direct comparison of differences. Most photos are from Kevin’s popular “Warblers of North America” laminated foldout guide (Quick Reference Publishing, 2015).
Quiz photos at the end of the program will test and reinforce your power of retention. Come and witness the challenges of warbler ID, and see the power of comparative viewing to separate similar species.
Kevin has authored or co-authored numerous books, including: "Visions," "The Shorebird Guide," "Peterson's Birding by Impression," "Gulls Simplified" and "Birds of Prey."
As the sole ornithologist for Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s DVD Birds of North America, Kevin prepared photos and wrote captions for over 2600 bird images, including over 800 of his own. He also wrote the shorebird section for a Field Guide of North American Birds by DK Publishing in Great Britain (2008). He is a regular presence at numerous Bird and Nature festivals around North America, where he gives keynote presentations and workshops on bird identification and natural history, and leads field trips to a variety of locations. Kevin also leads a select number of photography and birdwatching tours.
