In this pre-recorded, OnDemand webinar, participants will be guided to identify motivating factors for criminal behavior and incorporate the individual’s strengths and needs into intervention strategies. Through interactive case studies, participants will explore different scenarios for individuals charged with similar offenses, sharing suggestions for interventions within their small group and with the larger group. The session will also offer guidance on collaborative case planning and a balance between focusing on reducing recidivism and fostering desistance. Overall, the workshop will equip participants with a holistic approach to supervision, challenging conventional notions and fostering critical thinking for more effective intervention strategies.

Program Associate III, Evident Change
Simone Sawyer works with Evident Change's Research department as part of the CAIS/JAIS team, concentrating on risk and responsivity tools, training supervision strategies, and other various justice and human services data and equity initiatives. She has served as an outreach specialist for Texas Health and Human Services’ Youth Empowerment Services Waiver, as well as an AmeriCorps Volunteer with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department and the University of Texas at Austin’s Annette Strauss Institute. Additionally, she has experience as a juvenile supervision officer in a trauma-informed detention facility. Simone strives to improve justice policy and practices for youth, adults, and communities by working alongside them and professionals and other advocates in the justice system to identify areas of concern and implement sustainable solutions.

Program Associate III, Evident Change
Jeff Morino retired as the deputy chief probation officer of the San Mateo County Probation Department and joined Evident Change as a permanent part-time program associate in 2019. During his 25-year career with San Mateo County, Jeff held a variety of leadership positions in both juvenile and adult services. With certifications in Peace Officers Standards and Training and Standards of Training in Corrections, Jeff is an experienced educator and trainer. Additionally, Jeff is certified as an instructor of the National Curriculum and Training Institute’s Cognitive Behavioral Change Courses and has advised multiple community-based organizations as they converted their treatment programs to evidence-based cognitive therapy curriculums. He also played a pivotal role in developing and implementing one of California's first evidence-based probation supervision units, the TRACE unit, which emphasizes cognitive engagement strategies.
