This curated three-part virtual lecture series from historian and author Emma Griffin will explore the lives of people in Britain during the Victorian age. From the opportunities and perils wrought by the industrial revolution to the host of new social and sexual freedoms of the era, this masterclass promises to offer many insights into a fascinating period.

Women, Sex and Work

Historians tend to think that it is difficult to say much about the impact of the industrial revolution on working women, because they have left so little evidence of their lives behind. It is certainly true that the evidence for women is far more scarce, but it does exist, and in this class we will piece it together to learn more about how factory work brought changes to the lives of women.

The session will include an introductory lecture, discussion of a document picked by Emma, and an extensive Q&A.
