In typical widefield fluorescence microscopy, both the contrast and resolution of a captured image are reduced due to light collected from adjacent planes, scattered light, camera sensor noise, and the system’s point spread function. These contributions result in increased image haze/blur, obscuring the image details. Leica Microsystems' THUNDER opto-digital technology addresses these pitfalls through computational clearing and adaptive deconvolution.

Together, these methods improve image contrast and resolution beyond that of a typical high-end widefield fluorescence microscope. You can image with speed and sensitivity of a fluorescence microscope, but get images closer to those of a confocal microscope.
