In this workshop,
SecEd author and SENCO Sanjo Jeffrey will discuss her school's work to audit their curriculum offer to ensure it is diverse and inclusive. She will take a practical look in particular at how they "decolonised" their curriculum, drawing on activities they did at school in the wake of George Floyd's death in the USA and the rise of the global #BlackLivesMatter movement.
She will discuss their approaches including creating a curriculum working party and a purpose statement to guide this vital work. At the heart of this was an audit of the curriculum – but what did this look like, how was it undertaken, who was involved, and what barriers needed to be overcome?
Sanjo will also discuss a key ingredient in this work – that of the students' voice. How was this sought and included in a meaningful manner? Sanjo will discuss the outcomes of this work and what the school's next steps and on-going considerations are when it comes to ensuring delivery of a diverse and relevant curriculum for its students.
