Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is a set of social and emotional skills that influence the way we view and express ourselves to the world, develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships, cope with challenges, and use emotional information in a meaningful and effective way. While IQ and personality remain relatively fixed over time, EQ skills can be developed and increased with awareness, life experience, and practice!
EQ may not be the sole predictor of human performance and development potential, however it is proven to be a key indicator in these areas.
Consider the following statistics:
☑️Organizations that value and widely use Emotional Intelligence are 3.2x more effective at leadership development.
☑️There is a 31% gap in leadership development effectiveness between organizations where EQ is valued, versus those in which it is not.
☑️Another study followed 80 scientists over the course of forty years. And found that social and emotional abilities were four times more important than IQ in determining professional success and prestige.
☑️Emotional intelligence accounts for nearly 90 percent of what moves people up the ladder when IQ and technical skills are roughly similar (see “What Makes a Leader” in the Harvard Business Review, January 2004).
