Alexandra Russell
Professional Learning Team Leader
Alex studied a Bachelor of Science before commencing her teaching career in New Zealand’s intermediate school system. She taught students in years 7 and 8 across all curriculum areas, with a particular passion for science, and developing metacognitive thinking in students. Completing the Science Teaching Leadership Programme, facilitated by The Royal Society of New Zealand, allowed Alex to spend six months working alongside scientists in the field of dietetics. Through the programme she also studied science-specific pedagogies and science education research, before returning to school and leading change in the structure and delivery of the science curriculum.
Alex was working as Head of Science at an Auckland school when she introduced Stile to her team as a means of incorporating real world contexts into science lessons. Over the last two years, Alex has worked with teachers to support them in applying evidence based teaching strategies with Stile.
