This webinar is about using the stories of Black boys who are successful with school mathematics to focus on the experiences that shaped these boys’ interwoven identities with specific focus on their mathematics identity—how these boys see themselves mathematically and how they are seen by others (teachers, parents, and peers) as doers of mathematics. We will focus on items related to identity and agency. Additionally, we will discuss teaching practices that can be used by the teachers to cultivate the identities of Black learners as capable of participating in and being doers of mathematics.
