Senior Lecturer Advanced Practice
Fiona Downie is a senior lecturer in advanced practice at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, UK. She recently retired from her clinical post of nurse consultant in Tissue Viability in an acute cardiothoracic hospital. Her interest in tissue viability has a 25-year history. Her, particular, interests are in acute wounds that fail to heal, and the influence of bioburden in wound healing. In addition, she is especially interested in: SSI surveillance; pressure ulcer risk assessment /classification; and MARSI prevention. She has completed an MSc in wound healing and tissue repair from the medical school, Cardiff University, Wales. Her research study, whilst undertaking her MSc, looked at nurses’ and doctors’ knowledge in relation to the practice of wound swabbing. She has completed a Post Grad Certificate in Education, gaining a distinction for this. In addition, Fiona was awarded a Chief nurse of England’s Gold award for services to preventing pressure ulcers and for her contribution to education in tissue viability.
Webinar hosting presenter Leanne Leanne Atkin
Dr Leanne Atkin PhD MHSc RGN is a Lecturer Practitioner at University of Huddersfield additionally being Vascular Nurse Consultant at Mid Yorks NHS Trust. She completed her Masters degree in Advanced Nursing Practice 2010 and her PhD in 2017, her research focus was the treatment and management of peripheral arterial disease.

Her passions include leg ulcer management, quality agenda, peripheral arterial disease and advanced wound management. She has published over 50 articles related to lower limb ulceration pathways, vascular diseases, wound assessment and quality of life.

She is currently leading the ‘Legs Matter’ campaign aiming to raise patient and public awareness of lower limb conditions and working with the National Wound Care Strategy chairing the lower limb stream of work.
