Establishing the quality of a wine starts in the vineyard. A winemaker's work in the cellar also significantly influences the final wine. In this webinar, we will explore the philosophies, tools, and techniques used by new-generation winemakers that shape the style and quality of Bordeaux wines today. We will specifically look at the driving factors of a growing movement to preserve the purity of fruit, an openness to experimentation, and discuss the latest trends not found in your book studies.

Jacques Lurton
Group President of Vignobles André Lurton
Jacques is André Lurton's sixth child. This nature lover combines his interest in agriculture with his passion for science and new technology. Jacques was appointed Technical Director of the Vignobles André Lurton estates upon his return to Bordeaux in 1985. His contacts with the Bordeaux Institute of Oenology (particularly Émile Peynaud, red wine specialist and Denis Dubourdieu, white wine expert) and openness to innovation helped him produce some of Bordeaux's most sought-after wines.
Jacques thrived off the challenge to produce high-quality wines combining Bordeaux traditions and the innovative, laid-back style of the New World. Following the death of André Lurton in May 2019, Jacques decided to take over the family business along with his brother and five sisters and was appointed President of Vignobles André Lurton. His aim is to continue offering wine lovers from around the world the kind of pleasure that can only be found in tasting a bottle produced by Vignobles André Lurton.
Pierre Henri Cosyns
Oenologist & Winegrower, Château Grand Launay
Château Grand Launay, a family property in Côtes de Bourg, has belonged to the COSYNS family since 1968. Michel COSYNS, an oenologist trained by Émile PEYNAUD in Bordeaux bought the vineyard and his son Pierre Henri COSYNS has managed the estate since 2007. "After my engineering degree and 3 years in the Paris region, I returned to the family estate: my father was sick and he needed me. I had never considered this return to the roots. I resumed my studies and graduated as an oenologist in Bordeaux in 2005. The choice of certification in organic farming was obvious: successive owners of Launay have always worked in this direction. Today, biodynamics is a logical continuation of the work begun. We are always looking to go further: wines without added sulfur, indigenous fermentations, vegan vintages." The estate has been certified in Organic Agriculture since 2012 and switched to Biodynamics in 2018.
