At electronica 2024, Rand Technology’s CEO, Andrea Klein, spoke with Electronic Specifier’s Editor, Mick Elliot, about the pressing need to modernise supply chains in the AI era. The discussion explored the challenges this shift entails, the unique role of global independent distributors, and Rand Technology’s contributions to creating resilient supply networks.
The conversation highlighted the ongoing transition from traditional mobile computing to AI-driven systems, which is creating significant demand for updated supply chain models. Companies are grappling with resource shortages, limited expertise, and increasingly complex global logistics. Evaluating supply chain channels, such as factory direct and franchise distribution, emerged as critical for developing systems that meet the needs of tier one customers, OEMs, and contract manufacturers. Financial investment in scaling operations and ensuring robust certifications were also cited as vital for staying competitive.
Rand’s unique position as the only 100% woman-owned and certified global independent distributor was emphasised. Its tightly controlled supply chain, advanced testing capabilities, and strong quality record—maintaining a return rate of less than 0.25% over 32 years—set it apart. Klein also reflected on the importance of fostering diversity in the sector, highlighting how women-led companies can bring innovative strategies and cultural shifts to an industry historically dominated by men, enhancing supply chain performance and inspiring the next generation of leaders.
