About this Course
Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) presents a new live course titled "Love and Justice Through Guru Nanak Sahib" where participants will get the opportunity to directly interact with the instructor and have their queries answered.
Classes take place on Tuesday's at 5:00 pm PDT from 26 May until 11 August 2020 (12 weeks).
Please note, if your time zone does not allow for you to attend the class live, sessions will be recorded and available 24 hours after each class has been completed.
You do not need to register for each individual webinar. Once you register for the course, you will receive a weekly reminder.

Guru Nanak Sahib spent his life speaking out against injustice and formulating an alternative, justice-based worldview that began the Sikh faith. Through an exploration into the Guru Granth Sahib and historical sources, Love and Justice aims to build a thorough familiarity by which Guru Nanak Sahib’s message can be applied to today’s world. No single course could review the entirety of Guru Nanak Sahib's life or impact, therefore this course was designed to dive deep into select topics and build skills that allow for further study of the Sikh faith.
The course will be divided into three parts: the first sessions will provide background on the vocabulary and principles of the Sikh faith, a basic biography of Guru Nanak Sahib, as well an introduction to the relevant era of South Asian history. The second set of sessions will focus on particular events in the Guru's lifetime that inspired the Sikh outlook on confronting injustice. To conclude, the last session will provide an interactive application of the course; in which one will be tasked to articulate their own understanding of how Guru Nanak Sahib would react to the contemporary injustices of caste, religious discrimination, sexism, and authoritarian rule.
Participants of all backgrounds, Sikh and non-Sikh are encouraged to register should they seek new learnings on both the study and application of the Sikh faith. Course materials include the writings of several authors as well as active engagement with the Guru Granth Sahib. By walking through the original Gurmukhi text and a contextualized translation, participants can experience the relationship between language and social change. There will be ample room for engagement and discussion in this live-session course.
