The Alice Paul Institute is pleased to host Rev. Dr. Nadine Rosechild-Sullivan for a discussion about her forthcoming book about the role of birth control in women’s liberation. In her book, Passing the Baton: Birth Control - Precondition of the Liberation of Women, Rosechild-Sullivan investigates the ways in which social pressures placed upon women, historically and contemporarily, to marry and have children negatively influences opportunities for economic independence and professional contentment. In her talk she will discuss how the exclusion of women, including gender non-conforming and transgender individuals, from higher education and professional careers can result in “marriage as their primary economic arrangement and husbands as "employers." Rosechild- Sullivan will speak to the role that birth control has on the ability of women to have greater control over their professional and economic lives, as well as their physical health.
