The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported that in 2020, around 58.5 million people were employed worldwide in primary fish production alone, of which approximately 21 percent are women. Including subsistence and secondary-sector workers and their dependents, it is estimated that about 600 million people depend on fisheries and aquaculture (7.5 percent of the world’s population), making it one of the most vulnerable sectors to human trafficking abuses.

This Event will highlight and discuss the abuse of fishers across the world and what prevention strategies and measures can be introduced to mitigate these risks.
