Individuals within the criminal justice system have a high prevalence of substance use disorders (SUD), including opioid use disorder (OUD) and often have limited access to treatment options and other behavioral/mental health services. Two grantees will share their experiences in providing services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system and for building supports that follow patients in the community post-release.

Senior Research Associate
Debra Kibbe is a senior research associate at the Georgia Health Policy Center (GHPC). For almost two decades she has been exploring how to prevent and manage childhood obesity and support physical activity and nutrition behaviors in systems serving children, such as schools, health care, communities, and faith settings.

Kibbe is faculty for the American Dietetic Association Commission on Dietetic Registration’s certificate program on childhood and adolescent weight management and serves as an adviser to the Center Helping Obesity in Children End Successfully. She was a member of the education subcommittee of the U.S. National Physical Activity Plan that created the Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program framework.

At GHPC, Kibbe is actively involved in school technical assistance and evaluation for the Georgia Shape statewide childhood obesity initiative, conducting community health needs assessments, and providing evaluation for federally funded projects in communities and schools focused on chronic disease prevention, as well as physical activity and nutrition behavior.
