A wealth of sensitive data is collected every day across the health and care service; much of it used to make complex decisions about the best interventions for an individual or a group. The principle of patient confidentiality and data security is a deeply ingrained one. Yet ransomware attacks are a growing threat, as demonstrated most recently by the high profile attack on a key software supplier to the NHS; by the cyberattack on the Irish health service; and further back by the WannaCry attack.
This presents a question: can this wealth of important data ever be considered truly secure? And, if not, how do NHS organisations need to approach the issue of data security and data backups? What conversations should be had with patients about how the possible security risks balance with the advantages of information being stored electronically? How can leaders be confident there is a clear audit trail of who accessed which data and when?
This HSJ webinar, run in association with Rubrik, will bring together a small panel to discuss the possible answers to these questions.
