Naomi Clarke considers barriers to participation for children from BAME communities and the need to rethink attitudes and practices to make outdoor play and learning more accessible.
Presenter
Naomi Clarke
outdoor education consultant
Naomi is a freelance outdoor education and play consultant with a focus on intersectionality and diversity. Based in London, she has worked in outdoor education, ecotherapy, playwork and disability support across the charity, public and private sectors for over 15 years.
As a mixed-race, neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+ woman from a low-income family, she has had the opportunity to view outdoor work from a different perspective to many. Naomi believes that all children deserve access to facilitated outdoor play in natural spaces. She works to raise awareness of the need to expand outdoor play opportunities for children from BAME communities, and for more facilitators from diverse backgrounds to be represented and encouraged in the sector.
Naomi aims to help individuals and organisations to understand how intersectional identities can create barriers to inclusion in outdoor play and learning provision and is available to support businesses to make positive changes that can increase accessibility for all.
In addition to her consultancy work, Naomi home educates her children and is a carer. She is co-director of a democratic self-directed learning co-operative in London.
