Local educational agencies received new funding streams in March 2020 under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Then, Congress passed additional funding in December 2020 under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA). New funding brings new requirements for grantees to be aware of and new questions, such as allowable uses of funds, application of the Uniform Grants Guidance to the CARES Act and CRRSAA, and periods of availability. While CRRSAA funding has been distributed under the umbrella of the CARES Act GEER and ESSER programs, there are new and different rules for the funding, including modified allowable uses of funds, that LEAS should be familiar with.
