ABOUT THIS WEBINAR
ClientEarth Summit - Day 1, The role of the law in the fight for our planet
Session 1: Environmental protection for everyone? Intersectionality, people and the planet
9 November at 9:30am GMT | 10:30am CET - Duration 1 hour
Environmental degradation affects some groups more deeply than others. With environmental justice and social justice inextricably linked, how do we ensure action for the planet is inclusive and socially just?
The effects of climate breakdown, pollution, overexploitation of natural resources and environmental degradation are not distributed equally, and the impact on health and livelihoods can worsen inequalities based on race, class, gender and locality. This means law and policy makers need to incorporate intersectional, economic and intergenerational justice when establishing equitable and sustainable solutions to environmental issues.
In a conversation between Dr. Emilia Roig, Founder and Executive Director, Center for Intersectional Justice and Tatiana Lujan, Lawyer and Plastics Lead, ClientEarth, we delve into how the burden of environmental pollution falls more heavily on some communities and nations than others, and look towards how the law can end intersectional discrimination of those most impacted by the changing world.
