Charles Sylvia, ECC is Vice President of Industry and Trade Relations with Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). Charles has been an active CLIA member since 1994, when he embarked on his career in cruise sales and marketing as a front-line travel agent at a brick-and-mortar agency in his hometown near Cape Cod, Massachusetts. In his role at CLIA, Charles advocates for the interests of CLIA’s North America Travel Trade Membership, comprised of more than 56,100 travel agency owners and agents, and he serves as primary liaison for the CLIA Strategic Trade Advisory and Review Board (STARBoard) and the CLIA Trade Relations Committee.

Alex started his career back in 1984 when he joined NCL and spent nearly 30 years holding several senior roles, with his last one being Vice President, Key Accounts. He was also on the opening team for Disney Cruise Line where he spent 4 years helping them successfully launch the new brand in South Florida and Puerto Rico. In December 2016 Alex joined AmaWaterways as Director of Latin America, Sales. His passion for the cruise industry and for making strong personal connections with Travel Advisors not only made this his dream job, but led to several promotions, including his most recent in April 2022 to Senior Vice President, Sales. Whether he is in the office or on the road at industry events, he leads with his heart every day with AmaWaterways.

Some time ago, I began my career as a travel advisor and later became an agency owner. With an urge to always learn more, I made the decision to try the tour operator side of travel. Having spent a few years with a coach tour company who introduced me to river cruising, I fell in love with this new concept in travel. At a conference I was blessed to be tabled beside a lady by the name of Kristin Karst. It was this chance meeting where I was asked to join AmaWaterways nearly 14 years ago. I am part of an incredible AmaFamily that is focused solely on river cruising and I found my passion. I love sharing everything AmaWaterways with anyone who is interested. And I have been blessed to have experienced most all our itineraries to date. I look forward to going to our newest destinations, Egypt and Colombia, in the future.
