Incidents of Workplace Violence (WPV) especially towards nurses and nursing aides, increased significantly during the Covid-19 pandemic and this trend has continued post-pandemic.
WPV including physical and verbal violence by patients, clients, and co-workers, has been recognized as one of the leading occupational hazards that negatively impacts the physical and mental wellbeing of nursing staff.
This is the first of three webinars that focus on how nurses can prevent and manage WPV in their daily practice i.e., protect themselves (and their patients and co-workers) from both physical and mental harm and how they can assist in leading and participating in WPV prevention efforts in their workplace.
This webinar explores the current scope of WPV in healthcare and the consequences of WPV to nurses and other health care workers, their patients and health care organizations and an approach to preventing and managing WPV within the context of a culture of employee and patient safety. Evidence-based interventions that can reduce the risk of violence and meet state and Joint Commission regulatory requirements will be discussed. The role that nurses can play to assist in creating effective sustainable WPV programs will be highlighted throughout the session.
