Join us to discuss intermittent catheterization and lifestyle tips for women with four inspiring panelists including Cheryl Angelelli, Bianca Faith Johnson, Maria Rabaino, and Julie Stamm. Cheryl is a 4-time Paralympic medalist in swimming, wheelchair ballroom dancer, and motivational speaker who had a life-altering diving accident at the age of 14, resulting in a C6 level spinal cord injury. Bianca is a legal professional, college instructor, ordained reverend, and advocate for the disabled community who survived a near-fatal motorcycle accident that left her paralyzed from the chest down. After a car accident that left her paralyzed at the L1 level, Maria became a founding member of the all-women wheelchair dance team, the Rollettes, and developed a passion for making fitness more accessible as a certified personal trainer. Julie Stamm is a mother and author of “Some Days,” a story for children with a parent who has Multiple Sclerosis (MS), which she was diagnosed with in 2007. During a panel discussion, they will talk about these life-changing events, how they coped, and how they are helping others. They will also share advice for new and long-time intermittent catheter users, like how their favorite intermittent catheter has impacted their quality of life, travel tips and advice, and lifestyle best practices. After the panel discussion there will be an overview of the Coloplast® Care program along with free resources for product and lifestyle educational support for intermittent catheter users.

Presenters

Cheryl Angelelli

Paralympic medal winner, World Record holder, and Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame inductee are just a few of Cheryl Angelelli’s accomplishments after a tragic accident in a swimming pool at the age of 14 left her quadriplegic. At the time, some may have thought a promising athletic career was cut short. For Angelelli, it was just beginning.

She returned to the pool and made the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Paralympic Swim Team where she won two silver medals at the Beijing Paralympic Games and two bronze medals at the Athens Paralympic Games. A 7-time world champion, Angelelli also set multiple American and World Records.

In 1991, she was crowned Ms. Wheelchair Michigan and went on to win the title of First Runner-Up Ms. Wheelchair America. During her reign, she traveled as a motivational speaker, dispelling the myths and stereotypes about persons with disabilities.

Angelelli retired from Paralympic swimming in 2014 and took up another Paralympic sport; competitive wheelchair ballroom dancing. She and her dance partner, Tamerlan Gadirov, are the top-ranked Para DanceSport couple in the U.S. In 2017, they were ranked 7th in the world. She and Tamerlan have won multiple awards in the U.S. including first place at Fred Astaire World Championships in 2016 and 2019, and first place at the prestigious Ohio Star Ball in 2017. Angelelli is the co-founder of Dance Mobility, a free wheelchair ballroom and amputee dance program offered at Fred Astaire Dance Studios across the country.

In addition to her job in healthcare marketing and being a motivational speaker, Angelelli now travels teaching, competing, and performing wheelchair ballroom dancing. Her story and accomplishments have been reported on by major news outlets around the world. Most recently she was featured on Good Morning America and Inside Edition.

Bianca Faith Johnson

Bianca is an ambitious New York native whose world was turned upside down when, in 2017, she was in a near-fatal motorcycle accident that left her paralyzed from the chest down. Without knowing what navigating a spinal cord injury would look or feel like, Bianca decided to choose to live and has not slowed down since. Since becoming a T4/T6 level paraplegic, Bianca earned her Juris Doctorate degree, became an ordained reverend, joined her dream sorority, continued dancing and traveling, and has spoken on many large stages telling her story and advocating for the disabled community. Apart from working as a legal professional and college instructor, Bianca sits and serves on several Board of Directors, with the dearest to her heart being "Push to Walk," a spinal cord injury gym that helped her regain her independence. Bianca lives alone and is always in search of the next adventure and opportunity to educate someone on "life after a spinal cord injury," and she believes that there is nothing she can’t do!

Maria Rabaino

Maria Rabaino is a 28-year-old from Sacramento, California, who was in a drinking and driving car crash that paralyzed her at the L1 level. With a determination to get her independence back, Maria searched for community on social media and became one of the founding members of the Rollettes, an all-women wheelchair dance team based in Los Angeles that empowers women with disabilities to live boundlessly and shift perspective through dance. While Maria’s first year as a wheelchair user flew by in the best way possible, she never stopped to think about what came after learning how to live life in a wheelchair and slowly fell into a depression, causing her to gain weight. After realizing she was happiest when she was actively dancing with the team, Maria started to exercise to improve her mental health. During the start of her fitness journey, Maria realized how inaccessible fitness was. She struggled to find exercises that worked with her abilities and started to share how she adapted workouts on social media. This is how she found her passion to make health and fitness more accessible and became a certified personal trainer specializing in corrective exercises and exercise therapy.

Julie Stamm

Julie A. Stamm was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2007. Since then, Julie has made it her mission to educate, advocate for, and support others battling the disease, giving her the opportunity to work with physicians, patients, and foundations across the globe. She lives with her partner, son, and two pups in Colorado.
