The U.S. Supreme Court: How Free Enterprise Fared in October Term 2020

Sarah M. Harris is a partner with Williams & Connolly LLP in Washington, DC. This past Term, she argued and prevailed in two cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. She has also represented clients in high-stakes appeals in federal and state appellate courts across the country. Ms. Harris clerked for Associate Justice Clarence Thomas, Judge Sandra Lynch, U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and Judge Laurence Silberman, U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

Roman Martinez is the Deputy Office Managing Partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Latham & Watkins LLP. As a member of the firm’s Supreme Court & Appellate Practice, he focuses primarily on appeals in the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Courts of Appeals, and state appellate courts. He rejoined the firm in 2016 after serving as an Assistant to the Solicitor General at the US Department of Justice. Mr. Martinez previously served as a law clerk to Chief Justice John G. Roberts and to then-Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh of the D.C. Circuit.

Erin E. Murphy is a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Her practice focuses on Supreme Court, appellate, and constitutional litigation. Ms. Murphy’s work before the Supreme Court has included briefing such high-profile and high-impact cases as Maine Community Health Options v. United States, American Broadcasting Companies v. Aereo, Bond v. United States, and NFIB v. Sebelius. She previously served as a law clerk to Chief Justice John G. Roberts and to Seventh Circuit Judge Diane S. Sykes.
